Oyo FOMWAN Holds Special Jumu'ah Service to Mark 40th Anniversary, Prays for National Peace, Unity

The Oyo State Chapter of the Federation of Muslim Women's Associations in Nigeria (FOMWAN) on Friday held a special Jumu'ah service as part of activities marking its 40th Anniversary celebration, with members offering prayers for enduring peace, unity, security and sustainable development in Nigeria.

The special prayer service took place at the mosque within the premises of the FOMWAN Secretariat, General Gas/Iyana Church Road, Akobo, Ibadan, where FOMWAN leaders, members, Islamic scholars and Muslim faithful gathered to commemorate the association's four decades of service to humanity and the development of Muslim women in Oyo State.

Delivering the Friday sermon, Imam AbdulWahab Ashipa charged Muslim women to remain steadfast in their faith, uphold exemplary moral values and continue to contribute meaningfully to nation-building through education, charity and selfless community service.

He stressed that women occupy a strategic position in shaping the future of every society, noting that the home remains the first institution where children learn values, discipline and character.

Imam Ashipa therefore urged responsible women not to neglect their mentorship responsibilities, saying they have a critical role to play in nurturing younger generations to become morally upright, responsible and God-fearing citizens.

He further encouraged Muslim women to remain committed to the teachings of Islam by promoting compassion, honesty, peaceful coexistence and service to humanity, describing these virtues as essential ingredients for building a peaceful and prosperous nation.

Speaking after the prayer session, the Amirah of FOMWAN, Oyo State, Dr. Lateefat Dairo, reaffirmed the association's unwavering commitment to empowering women, supporting the less privileged, promoting girl-child education and strengthening family values in line with Islamic teachings.

Dr. Dairo described the 40th anniversary celebration as a moment of gratitude to Almighty Allah for sustaining the association over the past four decades and an opportunity to reflect on its numerous achievements in the areas of women empowerment, education, humanitarian service and community development.

She said the milestone also provides an avenue for FOMWAN to renew its commitment to expanding its humanitarian interventions, strengthening the spiritual growth of Muslim women and promoting initiatives that enhance the welfare of families and vulnerable members of society across Oyo State.

Special prayers were offered during the Jumu'ah service for the continued progress of FOMWAN, peace and stability in Oyo State, wisdom for leaders at all levels and enduring unity and prosperity for Nigeria.

Activities marking the 40th anniversary celebration will climax on Sunday, July 12, 2026, with a grand finale expected to attract eminent personalities, government officials, traditional rulers, Islamic scholars, community leaders and members of the association from across Oyo State and beyond.
