Oyo Rule Enforcement Authority Prosecutes 13 Road Kerb Vandals
The Oyo State Government, acting through the Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority (OYRLEA), has taken decisive steps to uphold public order and protect state assets following reported acts of wilful and malicious destruction of road infrastructure in Ibadan.
On Tuesday, 20th January, 2026, an enforcement operation led by the Chairperson of OYRLEA, Honourable Justice Aderonke Aderemi (rtd.), in company of the Authority’s enforcement officers, resulted in the arrest of Farinde Lawal, Akanji Kazeem, Abidemi Isiaq and ten (10) additional individuals.
The suspects were subsequently arraigned on Wednesday, 21st January, 2026, before the Chief Magistrate Court, Ibadan Magisterial District sitting at Iwo Road, on allegations of conspiracy and wilful damage.
Court filings alleged that the defendants conspired among themselves to deliberately destroy newly constructed road kerbs installed by the Oyo State Government at Odejayi Area, Old Ife Road and the New Gbagi Area of Ibadan on 20th January, 2026.
These alleged offences are said to violate Sections 516 and 451 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 35, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
During the court session, all defendants entered pleas of not guilty.
The presiding Magistrate, however, granted bail to the 13 accused persons under strict conditions intended to ensure compliance and guarantee their appearance for future proceedings.
Each defendant must produce two sureties—one being a blood relation and the other a government employee.
Furthermore, the court directed that the surety employed by government must present verifiable evidence of a minimum bank balance of ₦200,000, possess a valid two-year tax clearance certificate, and provide proof of ownership of landed property within the court’s jurisdiction.
The matter has been adjourned to 13th February, 2026, for further mention as the legal process continues.
OYRLEA reaffirmed its dedication to protecting state infrastructure and emphasised that individuals who deface, destroy, or tamper with public assets will face the full consequences of the law, executed through transparent and lawful procedures.
The Authority also reassured the public of its commitment to operating strictly within legal boundaries while working to safeguard government investments and maintain order across Oyo State.
